Man charged after historic painting damaged at Banff cafe during break-in

A 31-year-old man has been charged in relation to two incidents of alleged theft by housebreaking at Efes Barbers and the Kelpie Café in Banff.
The incidents happened between January 3 and 5 and a mural painting at the Kelpie Cafe was extensively damaged as a result.
Sergeant Barry Riddoch said: “These incidents caused significant upset within the local community and we are grateful to the public for assisting us while inquiries were carried out.
“Police is committed to fully investigating incidents which are reported to us and I would like to remind the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police on 101.”
The man is expected to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court today.
