A chef who carried out a “vicious” attack on his partner by stabbing her repeatedly with a knife was jailed for four years and four months yesterday.
Kamil Florian, 33, appeared for sentence at Oban Sheriff Court.
He previously pleaded guilty to assaulting his now ex partner Olga Obuszko, 27, at their home in Combie Street, Oban on September 23.
Sheriff Patrick Hughes said there could be no alternative to custody. He said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack on a defenceless woman. As a result of it Miss Obuszko was scarred for life.
“Crimes involving the use of a knife and crimes of domestic violence are of the greatest concern to the courts. In this case the court’s concern is increased by the fact that you have a previous conviction for a crime of domestic violence.
“I accept you do feel some remorse about this matter and I accept Miss Obuszko did not have to undergo cross examination.”
Florian changed his plea to guilty after hearing his former partner give evidence at his trial before a sheriff and jury.
She said he got drunk and argued with her at a party, so she stayed with a friend and returned home the following morning.
The victim said Florian grabbed her before cutting her face, stabbing her right arm, her back, lower back, rib cage and the back of her head. She required a total of 10 stitches.
The attack ended when she fled to a neighbour’s house.
Solicitor Edward Thornton said: “As a result of this incident, which does appear to be and isolated incident in terms of this relationship, Mr Florian accepts that his relationship with the complainer is at and end and there can be no prospect of reconciliation.
“Clearly he has no future in this country. He tells me when he receives his liberty he will be returning to Poland to his family.”
