A 36-year-old Inverness man who punched an interior door of his partner’s home half a dozen times had sentence deferred for good behaviour yesterday.
Richard Hughes, of Mamore Terrace, was found guilty after trial of behaving in an aggressive manner in a house in Wyvis Place on January 13.
His girlfriend, 28-year-old Suzanne Witts told his trial at Inverness Sheriff Court she couldn’t remember much about the incident because she was “very drunk.”
Miss Witts added that if she hadn’t been so intoxicated, she wouldn’t have phoned the police.
But Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood warned her that if she didn’t believe a crime had been committed, she could be guilty of wasting police time.
She then conceded that destruction of property justified a report to police.
The Sheriff commented: “It is hardly the crime of the century.”
Hughes will re-appear on October 11.
