A man who behaved aggressively in a Lerwick shop after being told he could not get a refund has been placed under supervision for 12 months and fined £300.
Daniel Andrews, whose was address was given as Lerwick’s Pitt Lane, admitted at Lerwick Sheriff Court yesterday to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at High Level Music on 8 December by shouting, behaving aggressively and refusing to leave.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the incident stemmed from when the 34-year-old was informed he could not get a refund after he told staff he had gone over his budget for the week.
Mackenzie said it was difficult to “properly convey how alarming and distressing” it was for customers and staff.
“He is aware of his size and he uses that size for unpleasant purposes,” he added.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client accepted that the people in the shop would have been upset by his behaviour, while he added that Andrews will “have to be better at social interaction” in the future.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said Andrews’ behaviour was not acceptable.
“Clearly there’s the old adage that customers are always right, but that did not apply in this situation,” he said.
