A former police and local authority admin assistant was given more time to sell two of her properties in an effort to stay out of jail.
Wendy Gunn’s solicitor Willie Young told Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood that offers had fallen through. But his 61-year-old client had managed to raise £10,000 towards repayment of £70,000 of VAT money she obtained from HMRC.
He added that the houses remain on the market.
Last month at Inverness Sheriff Court, Gunn pleaded guilty to falsifying VAT returns to gain the money.
Gunn, of Dornoch, inflated input and output figures for her husband James’s joinery business over a four year period because she “couldn’t be bothered doing the books”.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood had warned Gunn she could be jailed.
Gunn admitted being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of VAT to induce the HMRC to make repayments to which she was not entitled. The court heard she told tax inspectors that she “made up” the figures.
Gunn will re-appear on June 5.
