Fiona Hardie, who lived at Oldtown Road, had admitted culpably and recklessly setting fire to the property on March 23 last year. The blaze caused damage to the curtains, carpets, floor boards and skirtings. But after defence solicitor Alison Foggo said her client pleaded guilty, Hardie made her outburst. She told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald: “It was not culpable. It was an accident. It was the candle. “This is a set-up, just because they want alcoholics off the street.” Sheriff Macdonald ignored her comments, her guilty plea was maintained, and Hardie, who was remanded in custody, will be sentenced on July 17.
