A teenager who tried to slash his sister’s partner with a Stanley knife will be sentenced next month.
But the motive for Kyle Drummond Allan’s attack was not revealed at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday as a background report was called for.
Defence solicitor advocate Shahid Latif said he would reserve his comments until August 20 when his client reappears.
However he asked social workers to include consideration of assessing the 19-year-old for a drug treatment and testing order.
He added that Allan was “in a low mood and not in a good state of mind” when the offence took place in Lotland Place on April 24.
Allan, described as a Polmont prisoner but who has Dingwall and Inverness connections, admitted possession of the knife and assaulting Russell Devlin.
Fiscal depute Roderick Urquhart said that a companion of Allan’s saw him drop the Stanley knife, pick it up and say: “I am going to stab someone.”
The associate phoned the police and Allan then went to his sister’s house.
Mr Urquhart went on: “He went into the kitchen and said to Mr Devlin: ‘You didn’t think I would be back. You are getting it – getting slashed.’ He then swung the knife a number of times.
“But Mr Devlin was able to jump back to avoid being struck. He was not injured but told police it was close.”
Mr Urquhart said that on the last occasion Allan drew the knife back to take another swing, his sister was able to seize hold of it and disarm him.
She then phoned the police and Allan left the house, Mr Urquhart added.
“He handed himself into police two days later,” Mr Urquhart said.
