A 17-year-old was banned for driving for 18 months yesterday after he admitted drunkenly crashing his friend’s car into a parked vehicle.
The Forres teenager, who cannot be named, climbed behind the wheel of the car in the early hours of Tuesday July 10 this year.
His level of inebriation was such, however, that he drove for just a short distance before coming to a jarring halt as he collided with a stationary car.
A neighbour saw him clamber out and stumble back into a house. They were so concerned they called the police.
When officers arrived, they saw that minor damage had been done to both vehicles.
The teenager broke down in tears when questioned about the incident and admitted he had been responsible.
He then attended the police station were he was found to have 55mg of alcohol in his breath. The legal limit is just 35mg.
The teenager’s defence solicitor explained to Elgin Sheriff Court that his client took full responsibility for the crime.
“He was drinking and shouldn’t have done that,” he said.
“He only went a short distance but he caused the damage and pleaded guilty to it.”
The teenager pled guilty to driving while under the influence of alcohol and was made subject to a 12 month supervision order requiring him to undertake alcohol counselling.
He was also banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.
