A 27-year-old Inverness man who stole food, drink, a key and a laptop from a visitor attraction café was yesterday ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
Richard Stewart, of Mackintosh Road, had previously admitted at the city’s sheriff court stealing the items from Inverewe Garden in Wester Ross on October 15 last year.
He also separately admitted behaving in a threatening manner in Inverness’ Castle Street on February 22
Sentence was deferred for a background report and yesterday Sheriff Gary Aitken decided to impose the alternative to custody.
He placed Stewart under social work supervision for a year and do unpaid work after hearing from defence solicitor Neil Wilson.
Mr Wilson said: “His previous convictions do not make happy reading. He presents as a lost, aimless young man who has lacked stabilising influences in his life.
“He has had various addresses over the years but now has a fixed address and is more focused on the positive sides of life.”
