Man battered on windows and doors of north-east pub before attempting to head butt a police officer

A man who shouted, swore and battered on the windows and doors of a north-east pub before attempting to head butt a police officer could face being confined to his home.

Christopher Baird appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday to admitted his involvement in an incident outside the Mayfair Lounge and Bar in the town’s King Street on August 16.

Defence agent Marianne Milligan offered a guilty plea on behalf of the 33-year-old to charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and assaulting a police officer.

Fiscal depute Katie Murray said Baird, of Balmoor Terrace in Peterhead, had been overheard by police officers uttering threats to attack people within the bar.

She said: “The accused was banging on the windows and doors and so staff called the police.

“When officers approached Mr Baird he walked away. His speech was slurred but he could be heard saying he was going to beat up those within the premises.

“The accused was arrested and taken to Fraserburgh police station.

“He repeatedly attempted to headbutt one of the officers within a marked car.”

Sheriff Christine McCrossan deferred sentence on Baird until October for a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment.
