A man was caught carrying a large kitchen knife at a north-east pub.
Adam Stewart appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted being in possession of the blade at the Ship Inn, on Shore Street in Fraserburgh, on August 7.
The 24-year-old also smashed a telephone, threatened to kill someone and spat in a police officer’s face during a separate incident at Evolve hairdressers in the town on July 26.
Fiscal depute Lixia Sun said staff in the pub reacted quickly as soon as it became clear Stewart was carrying a knife.
She said: “The witness was socialising with some friends when they became aware of the accused. He entered the locus on his bicycle and he was told he would have to move it.
“An argument began and the accused dropped a knife on the floor. Lee Bannerman and the other staff restrained the accused and kicked the knife away from him.
“Police were called and he was taken to Fraserburgh police station.”
Ms Sun showed Sheriff Christine McCrossan a photograph of the blade and described it as a “large kitchen knife.”
She said Stewart got into an argument with two staff working at the hairdressers a few weeks before the incident in the bar.
She said: “He entered the locus aggressively and one of the staff picked up a phone to dial 999. He threw the phone to the floor and left.
“The police arrived a short time later and the accused was traced. He appeared to be heavily under the influence of alcohol.
“He was making threats to kill one of his friends who was watching. He was told he was under arrest and as he was handcuffed he spat in the face of one of the officers.”
Stewart pleaded guilty to having a blade in a public place, recklessly destroying property, behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by uttering threats of violence and assaulting police.
Sheriff McCrossan said she was “concerned” about his “escalating” behaviour and deferred sentence for a criminal justice social work report.
Stewart, whose address was given in court papers as Victoria Street, Fraserburgh, will return to the dock next month.
