A 39-year-old Invergordon man threatened violence towards his ex-partner and a man she was with when he encountered them together at an Inverness retail park.
Roy Sweeney, of Outram Street, admitted shouting and swearing at the pair on September 17 last year.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told yesterday that after the initial meeting, they all agreed to meet again and it was then that the incident took place.
Defence solicitor Duncan Henderson said: “His position is that the other man was aggressive towards him first and matters got out of control. “
Ordering Sweeney to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood told him: “This was quite unnecessary behaviour and it may have in its roots your inability to keep your temper.”
