An prisoner has been given more time behind bars after being caught with a blade at a north-east super jail.
Michael Clark was found with a razor blade that had been melted into a piece of plastic at HMP Grampian in Peterhead.
The discovery of the makeshift weapon was made during a search of the 29-year-old’s cell on March, 29 this year.
Clark, who appeared at Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday, admitted having a bladed article with him without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.
Fiscal depute Ruairidh McAlister said Clark showed the weapon to a prison officer and said he had it so he could defend himself.
Mr McAlister said: “On the day in question the accused presented a prisoner officer with a piece of plastic with a razor blade melted into it.
“He put it on the work top within the cell and told the officer it was for protection.”
Defence agent Sam Milligan said Clark was currently serving a sentence at HMP Glenochil in Clackmannanshire and was due to be released next summer.
He said Clark had taken out the weapon while prison officers checked his cell.
Mr Milligan said: “Mr Clark produced this during a routine search.
“Mr Clark was placed on rule and relocated to the segregated unit. He accepts the court has only one sentence that I can place on him.
“It will affect his chances of parole.”
Sheriff Christine McCrossan sentenced Clark to six months in prison.
