A 41-year-old Inverness man who was spotted on several city streets holding an axe was jailed for four months yesterday.
Donald MacPhee, of Benula Road, had his sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court backdated to December 4 when he was taken into custody.
He had earlier admitted possessing the offensive weapon in Bruce Gardens, Sir Walter Scott Drive, Holm Road and elsewhere in Inverness on December 2.
Sentence had been deferred for a background report.
Fiscal depute Ross Carvel said the police were called after he was seen in possession of the axe and MacPhee was located with the axe lying on the ground near to him.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood told MacPhee: “If you wander the streets of Inverness with an axe, you can expect to go to jail.”
