A 26-year-old man phoned an Inverness mosque and delivered a racist rant during a call lasting almost eight minutes.
Michael Ross, of Old Edinburgh Road, admitted making the grossly offensive racially prejudiced comments on April 30, 2017, at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday. He was fined £300.
Fiscal depute Ross Carvel said Ross, who the court heard suffers from muscular dystrophy, had made references to Sharia Law, the treatment of women and homophobic attitudes to Abdul Khan at the Portland Place Mosque in Inverness.
Mr Carvel said the call ended with a threat to burn down the mosque.
Defence solicitor Clare Russell said her client had stayed out of trouble for seven years.
She added that he held strong political views and he attempted to have a conversation about them with Mr Khan.
“But he let his anger get the better of him and he is aware that some of his behaviour in the seven minute 49 second phone call was unacceptable.” Ms Russell added.
