A 46-year-old Inverness man who has failed to observe bail conditions 14 times was jailed for three months after admitting another charge of ignoring a court order.
But Benjamin Drummond’s defence agent, Marc Dickson, said his client was “well-intentioned” and trying to be helpful.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told yesterday that Drummond had been visited at his Springfield Court home by police concerned about his partner, Heather Ennis, who had been reported missing.
The court heard that after Drummond went into city centre to meet friends, he saw Miss Ennis who then joined the gathering.
Mr Dickson said: “He told her that she had been reported missing to police and when he saw two officers on patrol, he approached them and told them that Miss Ennis was with him.”
However at the time Drummond was on a special bail condition not to contact Miss Ennis and he was arrested.
Mr Dickson added: “He thought he was doing the right thing but should have done something else.”
Sheriff Margaret Neilson said Drummond’s record and his knowledge of bail conditions meant that she had no alternative but to impose a custodial sentence.
