A drink-driver found sleeping in his car has been banned from the roads.
John Morrison was five times the drink-drive limit when officers found him at the side of the B9093 New Pitsligo to Strichen road on October 14.
Fiscal depute Ruairidh McAlister told Peterhead Sheriff Court that the joiner’s car was found in the early hours of the morning.
He said a witness could smell alcohol on the 28-year-old’s breath.
Mr McAlister said: “The time of the offence was between 4am and 5am.
“The vehicle was stopped with the lights off and a witness said the accused was asleep and smelling strongly of alcohol.
“When he was taken to Fraserburgh police station he told police officers that he had no recollection of why he was going to Strichen.”
Defence agent Sam Milligan said Morrison had been on a night out and but was unable to secure a lift back to his house.
Mr Milligan said: “He had gone out socially and he had hoped to get a lift or a taxi back but this never materialised.
“He then made a palpable error of judgement to drive home.
“I have explained to him that he will be visited with a lengthy disqualification period.”
Morrison, of Church Crescent, New Pitsligo, admitted having 101 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.
He was disqualified for 18 months and fined £700.
