An Inverness policeman will receive £300 in compensation after being punched in the face by a drunk Edinburgh woman.
Constable Adam Naismith had been with colleagues in Fraser Street on April 1 last year attending to a medical matter when he was assaulted, Inverness Sheriff Court was told yesterday.
Louise Cunningham, of Caledonia Place, approached them and began shouting and swearing, fiscal depute Niall Macdonald told Inverness Sheriff Court.
She added: “When PC Naismith tried to calm her down, she punched him once in the face.”
The 26-year-old pleaded guilty by letter to assault and, rather than fine her, Sheriff David Sutherland ordered her to pay compensation to the injured officer.
