A 49-year-old Inverness man was jailed for 135 days after admitting injuring another man with a single punch.
Gordon McLaren of Mackintosh Road appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted assaulting John Taylor on April 19.
The offence took place outside McLaren’s flat. Sheriff Chris Dickson backdated the sentence to April 20 when McLaren was remanded.
The court was told that McLaren’s cousin had become involved in an argument with Mr Taylor and banged on McLaren’s window for assistance.
McLaren, who was intoxicated, came outside, challenged Mr Taylor about his conduct, and punched him once on the face.
Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said: “He is quite protective of his cousin. He thought he was going to be struck and got his retaliation in first. There is no ill feeling between them and he wishes it never happened.”
