A 54-year-old woman was so drunk she brought her car to a halt on the Black Isle and blocked two lanes of the road.
Other motorists who went to investigate saw that a box of wine was in the front passenger seat and Sarah Moore smelled strongly of alcohol.
The police were called and a blood test revealed that Moore, of Larch Place, Inverness, was almost five times the legal drink drive limit.
At Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday, Moore admitted driving with excess alcohol at Bogallan between North Kessock and Munlochy on October 30 last year.
She was fined £667 and banned from driving for 20 months.
Defence solicitor Neil Wilson said: “She is entirely embarrassed and ashamed of her behaviour and has sought help for her difficulties.”
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood told her: “Whilst I have every sympathy with you for your personal problems, it stops when you get behind the wheel of a car. It must have been plain to you that you were incapacitated through alcohol.”
