A 33-year-old man stabbed his father on the arm and endangered his life in an argument over a missing bag.
First offender Simon Junor, described as an Inverness prisoner, told police after he was arrested: “I should have done it 10 years ago.”
Junor, who admitted failing to appear for a court date in February, had been remanded in custody as a result and yesterday pleaded guilty to assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Junor turned up at Kenneth John Junor’s house on Fortrose’s High Street on April 5 last year after having not spoken to him for 18 months.
Mr Junor was with his 87-year-old partially-sighted mother in the property and asked for the whereabouts of a bag, fiscal depute Ross Carvel told the court.
He added: “There was no reply and he became more agitated. He then left the room, returned with a knife and cut his father on the forearm, swore and left.
“His father phoned 999 and when he took his hand off the wound, blood was spurting out, he felt weaker and started shaking.
“He was then taken to Raigmore Hospital and following an overnight stay, his left arm was operated on. His injuries were not life-threatening.” Mr Carvel said.
Sheriff Margaret Neilson was told that Junor was arrested and admitted stabbing his father, calling him “hateful”.
Mr Carvel went on: “He did not divulge why he assaulted his father but alluded to something having happened in the past between them and that he was not ready to talk about it with the police.”
Defence solicitor Pauline Chapman said: “Clearly there is a background here”. Sheriff Nelson agreed and deferred sentence until June 24 for a background report. Junor was again remanded.
