A Glasgow man who presented a knife at a steward who had thrown him out of a Dingwall bar for fighting with another customer escaped a jail sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.
Jamie Kennedy, of Longbar Crescent, appeared for sentence before Sheriff Margaret Neilson after last month admitting conducting himself in a disorderly manner and fighting with Michael Rennie at the Mallard Bar on September 8 last year.
He also pleaded guilty to possessing a knife after the early morning brawl.
Sentence was deferred for a background report on 32-year-old Kennedy who was said “to come from a good family and he has a good work ethic”.
His solicitor, Stephen Fox, that drink had been involved and “he has virtually no recollection of what happened. Since this, he has stopped drinking entirely. He still can’t believe the position he has put himself.”
Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Neilson that Kennedy was in the bar when he was involved in an altercation with others.
The group were ejected by stewards and it escalated outside where there was a fight, Mr Weir went on.
He added that Kennedy then left the scene and returned a short time after to try and gain entry to the bar again.
Mr Weir said he was prevented by door staff but took a knife with a five inch blade from his waistband.
The police were called and Kennedy was arrested in the nearby Royal Hotel.
“He was asked to drop the knife by police and he complied.” Mr Weir concluded.
Sheriff Neilson sentenced Kennedy to 225 hours of unpaid community work as an alternative to custody and placed him under social work supervision for a year.
