A Nairn man with a heart condition had a drunken dispute in his local shop when staff asked him to pay for a plastic bag for his shopping.
Gerald Grant, of Ashers’ Court,began shouting and swearing at the alarmed customer assistants and then challenged a friend of his to fight when he stepped in to try and calm down the 42-year-old.
At Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday, Grant admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in the Co-op in High Street, Nairn on February 6. He was fined £350.
The court heard the staff activated the panic alarm and when police arrived, Grant was lying on the pavement, having spilled his goods.
Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said his client couldn’t remember anything about the incident.
He added: “He has a heart condition and was heavily medicated. He had also taken alcohol which was not a wise thing to do. He is apologetic because his mother used to be the manager of the shop.
“Also his friend went back into the shop after escorting my client out to get him a plastic bag to put his items into.” Mr Dickson went on.
