A date has been fixed for the trial of a Spanish skipper accused of stabbing his first mate on board their trawler at Scrabster harbour last year.
Adolfo Pego-Brion, 46, pleaded not guilty, previously, to the assault, on indictment, at Wick Sheriff Court.
He returned to court yesterday to be told that both the prosecution and defence were now fully prepared for him to stand trial before a jury on September 10.
The indictment alleges that Pego-Brion repeatedly stabbed Marcial Torres to his severe injury and danger of his life in the wheelhouse of the vessel on August 20 last year.
Sheriff Andrew Berry was told yesterday that a joint minute of agreement between the prosecution and defence had enabled the witness list to be significantly reduced from 26 to six.
The trial is expected to last between four to five days. Interpreters will be present to help with proceedings.
