A Fort William man was jailed for 18 months after a drunken disturbance.
Donald McPhee, of the town’s Kennedy Court, had been remanded in custody since April 3.
He appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted charges in relation to a disturbance in Caol.
He admitted behaving in a threatening manner in Fern Court, assaulting Brian Garrick with a shovel and biting him on the arm, conducting himself in a disorderly manner and frightening two children.
The 25-year-old also admitted resisting, obstructing and hindering police officers.
Fiscal depute Robert Weir told Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood that Mr Garrick saw McPhee in his garden around 8pm and went to confront him.
He said: “There was a struggle as Mr Garrick tried to get him out. McPhee picked up a shovel and struck Mr Garrick on the head with it. Another struggle ensued and Mr Garrick was bitten on the forearm.”
Mr Weir said that McPhee left the house and walked into a nearby street where he spoke to two children, offered them sweeties and asked them if they wanted to get in his van. One of the youngsters then ran home and told their mum.
The fiscal depute added: “ McPhee was traced by police a short time later. He was arrested and began struggling with police officers, shouting and swearing.”
He added that at Fort William Police Station, McPhee had to have his legs restrained and tried to bite one of the officers.
His solicitor Ian McCarthy said his client had “a substantial record of previous convictions. He remembers very little of the incidents as he had consumed a large amount of alcohol”.
