A 35-year-old drug addict with a 20-year habit has been jailed for eight months at Inverness Sheriff Court after admitting a string of shoplifting offences.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood heard that Paul Macdonald, of Baron Taylor’s Street, was under pressure to pay off his drug debts and stole from a number of city stores and a house.
Macdonald admitted stealing fragrances from Boots on February 15, a holdall from a property in Fairfield Road on July 6 last year and clothing from Rohan on September 12.
He also admitted possessing cannabis in Drummond Street on January 26 this year, followed by the theft of more fragrances from the same Boots store on July 1 and meat and DVDs from Tesco Inshes on August 5.
Macdonald had his sentence backdated to August 7 when he was remanded in custody.
