A 59-year-old has gone on trial for murder after a man died in an Aberdeen high-rise over the Christmas period.
Bohdan Cieslar denies the allegation against him.
Yesterday he told the High Court in Edinburgh that he acted in self-defence after being attacked by Aleksander Smerdel at Donside Court, in Tillydrone, on December 27.
It is alleged that Cieslar repeatedly struck Smerdel on the body with a knife to his severe injury and murdered him.
Cieslar has denied the charge and his special defence was read to jurors at the start of proceedings.
The trial before Lord Pentland continues.
