A 35-year-old shoplifter and drug addict who failed a treatment and testing order was jailed for seven months yesterday.
Stephen Potter, of Kessock Road, Inverness, was unable to adhere to the strict social work regime designed to help him defeat his addiction, the city sheriff court heard.
It was imposed earlier this year for a string of shoplifting offences which occurred between January and October last year.
In total, Potter stole £252 worth of items including alcohol, food, toiletries, perfume and razors from city stores such as Tesco, Superdrug, Home Bargains, the Co-op and the Eastgate branch of Boots.
Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said: “His offending is related to his addiction. He feels the need to steal to feed his habit.”
