59-year-old drug addict given jail warning over heroin possession

A 59-year-old drug addict was warned she faced jail after admitting possessing the Class A drug with intent to supply.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told Carol Knox, lost a leg because of her addiction and had previous convictions.

She will be sentenced on September 16 after a background report has been prepared.

Defence solicitor advocate Shahid Latif said: “The curse that has followed her throughout her adult life has been her addiction to drugs which has led to her physical problems.”

Knox, of Drover’s Court, Muir of Ord pleaded guilty to the offence on November 10 last year. She was seen parked near Lochalsh Stores on November 9 and early the following morning her house was searched.

A total of £510 in cash was found, a wrap of heroin, a mobile phone and scales with brown powder, later confirmed as heroin.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir said the 16.3 grams of heroin recovered was worth between £450 and £1,060.

Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood allowed Knox’s bail to be continued but warned her all options were open to the court, including prison.
