A north-east man told police he thought was “going to die” after three men burst into his home armed with knives and an axe, a court has heard.
Allan Roy was found by police covered in blood following the alleged attack at his house in Clinton Drive, Sandhaven, on November 21.
Brandon Douglas, Martin Gemmell and Brandon Wilson are on trial accused of trying to kill him, and also of robbing him of a games console, mobile phone and drugs.
At the High Court in Aberdeen yesterday, jurors were shown images of wounds to Mr Roy’s head, torso and arms.
The court heard the 42-year-old suffered six broken ribs, with one of them puncturing his lung.
Mr Roy was unable to attend the trial in person, so the statement he gave officers was read to jurors instead.
After a heavy blow from the “butt end” of the axe, Mr Roy recalled: “I thought I was seriously hurt as I could hear my lung making a gargling sound.”
He said he was chased through his house and locked himself in his bathroom, before the door was broken down with the axe and he was “dragged” back into his lounge.
He said: “My jumper felt wet and I saw blood. I felt myself being stabbed numerous times.”
Mr Roy later told officers: “This was the most frightening experience of my life.
“It lasted five minutes but felt like a lifetime.
“After the incident I am too scared to stay in my house.”
The court also heard from Gemmell’s girlfriend Melissa Maxwell, who previously told police that the 28-year-old had confessed his involvement to her.
In a statement to officers she referenced a games console allegedly stolen from Mr Roy, and which was found by police searching her flat.
She also said that Gemmell, and five or six others, were at a party on the evening of the incident then left for several hours after appearing to “plan something”.
Quoting her statement, advocate depute Alan Cameron, prosecuting, said: “He told me the PlayStation he put in my flat was the one he stole.”
But in the witness box, Miss Maxwell denied all knowledge of the console.
She said she could not remember giving a statement or if she had told the truth in it, as she had been “under the influence of drugs”.
In addition to the attempted murder charge Gemmell and Douglas, 18, are accused of holding a knife to a man’s throat to steal a bank card, mobile phone and air rifle.
Wilson, 22, is facing drug possession charges.
The trial, before Judge Frank Mulholland, will continue next week.
