A 21-year-old Inverness man who tried to butt a detective before spitting at him was jailed for five months yesterday.
Jools Grant, of Springfield Gardens, appeared for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court after previously admitting the assault and a breach of bail.
Depute fiscal Niall Macdonald told Sheriff Margaret Neilson that officers were carrying out an investigation and taking photographs near Grant’s home on April 19 when he asked them why they were there.
Grant appeared intoxicated and was staggering so officers decided to arrest him.
Mr Macdonald said Grant then committed the offence.
Defence solicitor Clare Russell said: “He was not aware they were police officers.”
Sheriff Margaret Neilson noted that Grant told social workers it was a police officer’s job to ‘be prepared for assault’.
She told Ms Russell: “If he can’t understand police do not deserve to be assaulted doing their job you have a very serious problem with your client.”
