A 20-year-old fractured a man’s jaw with a single punch while out celebrating the New Year.
Oluwatayo Dada appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday where he admitted punching Jack Henderson on the head, causing him to fall to the ground.
The court heard Dada lashed out over a comment made by Mr Henderson.
The incident, which was captured on CCTV, happened at Windmill Brae, Aberdeen on January 1.
Dada’s defence solicitor Mike Monro said his client was “acutely embarrassed” by his behaviour and had turned his life around since.
He added: “Mr Dada mentions that it was a ‘breaking point’ after what was said to him by the complainer.
“He punched them once. He is quite a healthy looking person and, if he wanted to, he could pack a punch.
“During the course of the year Mr Dada has worked very hard on himself.
“He is now a full-time college student and he has got himself a steady girlfriend.
“He is hugely apologetic to the complainer.”
Sheriff Graham Buchanan said whatever provoked the attack was not of “much importance”.
He added: “To punch someone in the head and fracture their jaw is a serious matter.
“Some people may say whoever does that should be sent to prison.
“I might have very well been entitled to impose a sentence of detention.”
Dada, of Ramsay Crescent, Aberdeen, was put on a year-long supervision order and must carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.
