A Shetland man has fined £200 for possessing a pair of knuckledusters in a public place.
Arend Mckenna, of Mossbank, appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court yesterday to admit possessing having the item on the A970 at Brae on Sunday.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the incident came to light at around 1.45am after the police were informed that the 41-year-old had been in a verbal altercation.
The fiscal said that police officers found the knuckledusters in his jacket. There was no suggestion they had been or were going to be used.
Defence agent Gregor Kelly said Mckenna “ordinarily leads a peaceful life” but bought the knuckledusters from eBay after becoming increasingly anxious of social situations.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank also granted a Crown motion for forfeiture.
