A care worker who took almost £4,000 from a vulnerable woman has been given a month to pay it back – or face jail.
Shirley Cameron used a 76-year-old client’s bank details to pay for her own shopping over a two-and-a-half year period.
The 55-year-old, of Highfield Avenue, Inverness, previously admitted obtaining goods from Tesco by fraud and theft.
She was told that only reimbursement would keep her out of jail.
At Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday, defence solicitor Laura-Jane MacFarlane said Cameron’s family had raised the money as a loan for her.
Sheriff Neilson agreed to defer sentence to allow time for the cash to be paid to Cameron’s victim.
She said: “This was a gross breach of trust involving a vulnerable woman. It is shocking. If full payment is made, I will probably impose a non-custodial sentence.”
The case will call again on December 4.
