New Year’s Day took a violent twist when a 46-year-old Inverness man chased his partner out of the house and stamped on her head.
Yesterday at Inverness Sheriff Court, Sean Maclean, of Madras Street, was ordered to pay his ex-partner £1,000 compensation.
Sheriff Chris Dickson also instructed him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, remain under social work supervision and take part in a domestic abuser programme for two years.
In addition, Maclean was ordered not to enter Park Road for the next year.
Maclean had admitted assaulting the woman.
Fiscal depute Callum Thomson said: “When she left the flat, she hid behind a pillar in the courtyard but he found her and pushed her to the ground.
“After he was arrested, he became agitated and shouted and swore at police in Burnett Road Police Station. Then he overturned a table, kicked out and officers had to use their incapacitant spray.
He said: “It had no initial effect and other officers were called and restrained him to the floor.”
Maclean admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Defence lawyer Marc Dickson said: “There are issues here which need to be tackled.”
