A man from Cumbria was caught trying to smuggle more than £40,000 of heroin into Aberdeenshire.
Steven Thompson was stopped by police while driving a blue BMW on the A90 between Laurencekirk and Fordoun – 300 miles from home – on April 13 this year.
The 31-year-old had been tasked by a “third party” with couriering the class A substances, which had been packed into a white carrier bag and stuffed in the front passenger foot well.
It had a number of smaller packages inside all full of heroin with a maximum value of £43,030.
Thompson, of Crown Street in Millom, admitted being concerned in the supply of diamorphine at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Solicitor Chris Maitland told the court that he had been asked to ferry the drugs up north by a “third party”, but did not know “specifically” what substances he was being asked to deliver.
Sentence was deferred until next month to allow for the preparation of social work reports.
