A man has admitted assaulting a stranger outside a popular Aberdeen karaoke bar in the mistaken belief he was protecting his wife.
Denis Evanoss was left with a cut on the back of his head after being pushed to the ground on Justice Mill Lane in the early hours of December 1.
His assailant, Eriks Skels, admitted carrying out the attack and causing his victim severe injury.
Skels, a 26-year-old fish factory processing worker from Peterhead, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday for sentencing.
Fiscal depute Jade Wong said: “The accused was not known to the complainer.
“It was 3.15am and the complainer and his friends were leaving Bardot’s.
“The accused approached them and pushed the complainer with his right hand, and he fell to the ground.”
Mr Evanoss suffered swelling and a 1cm cut to the back of his head, which required to be glued.
Solicitor Ian Woodward-Nutt said Skels had been enjoying an evening out with his wife when the incident took place.
“He mistakenly through the complainer had been bothered his wife. He heard a scream he thought had come from her.
“With the benefit of hindsight he appreciates he completely misinterpreted the situation.”
Sheriff Graham Buchanan fined Skels, of Victoria Road, Peterhead, £420.
