An Aberdeen man has admitted driving recklessly as he veered through the city in an attempt to escape the police.
Lewis Welsh sped his Volkswagen Tiguan on Granitehill Road, North Anderson Drive and Hilton Drive to “evade a pursuing police vehicle” on Sunday, May 12, last year.
He overtook vehicles on inside lanes, drove on the wrong side of the road and drove at “excessive speed” during the incident.
The 25-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and pled guilty to a string of offences.
Among them, he admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance.
The following month Welsh, whose address was given as Kingswalk in Aberdeen, again took to the road illegally.
On June 2 and June 20 he drove while disqualified and without insurance, this time behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Astra.
Sheriff Grant Hutchison deferred sentencing in order to obtain reports.
He added that evading police pursuit was a “serious matter” and that he would “need to hear the circumstances” during a further court appearance next month before passing sentence.
The court heard that Welsh, who cares for his mother with epilepsy, was going through a “difficult time” at the time of the incident.
