A road rage incident in Inverness city centre continued all the way to a police station after a car had stalled in a busy street, a sheriff was told.
Stuart Johnstone, of Seaforth Place, Maryburgh, had stopped to pick someone up in Union Street on April 9 last year but a 58-year-old motorist behind him was unhappy at the delay and sounded his horn.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that this prompted 23-year-old Johnstone to get out of his vehicle, shout, swear and make an offensive gesture towards the man before following him, driving in an erratic and aggressive manner, to continue his tirade of abuse.
The court was told the man phoned the police and decided to drive to Burnett Road Police Station, on the route to the A9 Kessock Bridge, with Johnstone following him, where he again swore at the driver before driving off.
Johnstone yesterday admitted threatening behaviour and careless driving.
Defence solicitor John MacColl said: “He apologises unreservedly for his behaviour.”
He was ordered to carry out 90 hours of unpaid community work and had his licence endorsed with five penalty points.
