A man smashed up a police car parked outside a station just three days after being released from prison – because he wanted to go back.
Paul Smith wielded a metal pole to break the vehicle’s windows and wing mirrors, and left dents in its bodywork, in the early hours of Monday morning.
The 43-year-old had been let out of prison on Friday, but staged the vandalism at the Victoria Road police station in Torry with the hopes of returning there.
He appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, where he admitted damaging the car.
Sheriff William Summers said: “I am told you want to go back to prison.
“I find that vaguely disturbing and troubling.”
He sentenced Smith, of no fixed abode, to three months behind bars.
