An Aberdeen man who was caught growing cannabis in his flat has been told he is “not fashionable and not cool” by a sheriff.
Police received calls in December and January about a “strong smell” of the class B drug coming from Liam White’s Great Northern Road flat.
Four officers raided the 22-year-old’s property on Monday, February 3, when they found various quantities of the illicit substance stashed within.
In total, White was found to have around 161g of herbal cannabis shared between a number of jars and tubs.
The haul was given a maximum estimated value of £3,240.
White admitted being involved in the supply of cannabis at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
His solicitor, Peter Keene, said: “He was growing four small plants, that’s where the smell was coming from.”
After he was arrested, White was asked by police if he was intending to sell the drugs to others, but denied this.
Mr Keene added: “He indicated he would have possibly given some of the cannabis to a relative who suffers from cancer.”
Imposing his sentence, sheriff Raymond McMenamin said: “The growing of cannabis is not some sort of casual thing you should become involved in.
“It’s not fashionable, it’s not cool and it’s certainly not legal.”
White was fined £135.
