A man caught with a police-style baton said he needed it to protect his wife from anti-social youths.
Stuart Anderson was stopped by officers on Downies Place, in the Torry area of Aberdeen, on January 16 after he was seen throwing the item over a wall.
On being asked why he had the extendable friction lock baton, the 33-year-old replied: “I bought it because me and my wife keep getting jumped by kids.”
Anderson, of Farquhar Road, pleaded guilty to carrying an offensive weapon by letter at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
He will be sentenced next month.
