A Lerwick man has admitted growing cannabis at his home and stealing thousands of pounds worth of electricity.
Police raided Dell Smith’s home earlier this year and discovered 558 grams of cannabis, as well as equipment associated with growing the class B drug, such as fans and heaters.
Smith, of 22 Burnside, admitted growing the drug when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court yesterday.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said that “quite a lot of effort” had gone into the drug-growing operation.
Smith, 38, also pleaded guilty to stealing £3,635 worth of electricity over a five-and-a-half period until January 9 this year.
Sheriff Philip Mann deferred sentence for background reports and told Smith he wanted to look at all the options before dealing with the “relatively serious matter.”
He also ordered the forfeiture of all the equipment seized. Smith will return to court for sentencing on June 26.
