Man, 65, charged over Inverness garage owner’s death

A 55-year-old garage owner has died after an alleged altercation in Inverness.

Police were called to Leachhkin Hill Road following reports of a disturbance at 6pm on Monday.

John Birrell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are treating the incident as a suspicious death following a post mortem examination.

A 65-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death and is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court tomorrow.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Teams of officers spent most several hours carrying out door-to-door inquiries and searching the local area.
