A Shetland teenager admitted making nuisance 999 calls to the police when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court yesterday.
Nathan Hilditch, 19, of Horseshoe Close, Virkie, pleaded guilty to making calls to Police Scotland “for purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to officers and staff” between May 18 and June 2.
Fiscal Duncan MacKenzie said it was “difficult to properly convey just how much of a drain on resources this man is” when he phones the police – causing officers to visit the southern end of the Shetland mainland to deal with the bogus calls.
Sentence was deferred until June 26 for a social inquiry report to be obtained.
Meanwhile, Hilditch pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to steal a vehicle from Dragontree Cottage in Virkie on May 26, and of assaulting a man by repeatedly throwing punches at him on the same day.
He will appear on June 26 for an intermediate diet followed by a trial scheduled for July 23.
The defence’s application for bail was turned down by honorary sheriff Eric Peterson.
