A businessman who was struggling with the break-up of his marriage bombarded his estranged wife with emails and messages.
Lee Macdonald, 37, was yesterday ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work at Inverness Sheriff Court.
The court previously heard that the coal merchant, of Montrose Avenue, Auldearn, split up with his spouse in October but they continued to be business partners in Nairn Fuels.
The court heard he began sending messages between February and May, sometimes in the early hours, with abusive and offensive remarks.
He admitted threatening and abusive conduct and a breach of bail.
Fiscal depute Martina Eastwood said the couple had been together for about 12 years, and for some of that time they were married.
She told the court that Mrs Macdonald made a police complaint as the messages grew in “intensity”.
Defence solicitor Patrick O’Dea told the court his client is attending counselling and “accepts his conduct was unacceptable”.
