A senior accounts manager with Highlands and Islands Enterprise has been banned from the road for two years.
Juan Rodriguez, 34, who admitted driving while almost five times the legal drink drive limit, was also fined £1,475 after Inverness Sheriff Court heard he was dumped by his fiancee.
Rodriguez, of Charles Street, Inverness pleaded guilty to driving on Dores Road on September 16 with 110mcgs of alcohol in his system when the limit is 22mcgs.
The court was told that a member of the public contacted police due to concern about Rodriguez’s driving.
Officers traced him around two hours later and subjected him to a breath test.
Defence solicitor Alastair Gray said: “He is a senior accounts manager with HIE and runs a local business which also employs seven people in the hospitality sector.
Sheriff Gary Aitken said: “It does not matter what bad news you suffered. There is no justification in getting behind the wheel. You are fortunate that you were stopped by the police before you harmed yourself or anyone else.”
