A lorry driver whose vehicle overturned and ploughed into a north-east couple’s living room has been found guilty of careless driving.
Michael Henderson, who escaped from the crash at Lonmay with just a few scratches, went on trial at Peterhead Sheriff Court this morning.
The 54-year-old, from Grangemouth, accepted that he had been speeding moments before the crash, but denied this had been a factor in the accident.
Sheriff Andrew Miller found him guilty of driving without due care and attention on June 3, last year.
Henderson was convicted of driving at excessive speed, which resulted in a failure to negotiate a bend, causing his vehicle to leave the road and collided with the home of Alex and Doris Smith. It is understood the accident caused around £80,000 worth of damage.
Henderson was fined £500 and had six points imposed on his licence.
