A Portmahomack man has admitted a foul-mouthed homophobic rant at two men after a night out in Inverness.
Russell Ferguson, 22, of 4 Rockfield Farm Cottages, admitted a charge of assault and a charge of making homophobic remarks on March 2 this year at the junction of Queensgate and Academy Street in the city centre.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Ferguson shouted at the two men that they were “homos” and a “disease”.
Fiscal depute Kelly Mitchell told the court that Ferguson had encountered them outside a nightclub at around 3am after a night out with friends in the city centre.
The court heard that the two men were not known to Ferguson but that they had been arm in arm when the 22-year-old left the nightclub.
First offender Ferguson works offshore in the oil industry.
Defence agent Eileen Macinnes said: “He is at a loss to explain his reprehensible behaviour.”
Sheriff Margaret Neilson deferred sentence for background reports to be carried out.
