An oil boss is facing a “significant custodial sentence” after being found guilty of sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a woman in Aberdeen.
Andrew Murray, 51, had been on trial at the High Court in Aberdeen accused of sexually assaulting and attempting to rape the woman, who can’t be named for legal reasons, while she was incapable of giving or withholding consent due to being asleep or unconscious and intoxicated.
He had denied the charges.
The incident took place following an after party at Murray’s second home on Union Grove in December 2018, after he had earlier attended a party at Pittodrie Stadium.
After three days of evidence, the jury took just over an hour to find him guilty by majority.
He was also found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice by trying to destroy evidence and avoid detection.
Murray, who was a director with an oil firm at the time, removed bedding from the address, changed his clothes, left in the early hours of the morning and drove to his home in Buckie where he showered.
Following the majority verdict, sentence was deferred on Murray, of Linn Avenue, Buckie, for reports.
Judge Graham Buchanan warned Murray a “significant custodial sentence is inevitable” and remanded him in custody until the sentencing in April.
